CLASSES
Unless stated otherwise, please register 2 weeks in advance to receive materials
list.
Watercolor Workshops
All levels of skill invited
You can take each workshop independent of the others
Take all three and get your supplies free.
February 2nd Saturday 9-5
Shapemaking
Simplyfying Shapes On the Waterfront
Participants will use slides, drawing and collage to create
orignal permanent drawings gleaned from photos of the Seabrook/Kemah waterfront
to plan a design that is personal based upon solid design concepts. You
will create viewfinders the old masters would drool over. Drawings will
be critiqued and ready to transfer onto watercolor paper for later use.
We will be using Jeanne Dobie's "Making Color Sing" especially
Chapter 21 as a guide. If you have that book, look it over again. It is
a veritable Bible for watercolorists.
Fee: $55, bring a lunch
$5 supply fee.
February 16th Saturday 9-5
Paint Applications and Color Choices
Pouring and Resists
The subject again is the waterfront, boats or fish.
Participants can copy permanent drawings of mine if they did not attend
on Feb. 2nd. If you did attend February 2nd, bring in those drawings.
We will focus on choosing a palette, mixing and pouring color using a
variety of resists. You are referred to Jean Grastorf's "Pouring
Light: Layering Transparent Watercolor" if you are looking for a
reason to buy another book. She is the queen of simple shapes and pouring
paint.
Fee: $55, bring a lunch
$5 supply fee (includes paint, resists and 1 sheet of Arches cut into
quarters)
Bring all of your regular watercolor "tools" including brushes,
paper towels and sponges,
Karen Coady, you need a new sponge, no joke.
February 17th Sunday 12-5
Mixed Media
Creating Mystery and History on Your Paper
Participants will create many small works creating "history"
by layering different media including grout, modeling paste, wax resists,
stenciling, spray paint, acrylics, watercolor, gouche, inks, transfers,
frottage, walnut crystals, matt medium and stamping. We will work towards
creating works of mystery. You are invited to bring collage images of
your own (or not) to imbed into these other media.
Fee: $50, be sure your blood glucose is not an issue. I will serve pretzels
and water, that's it.
$5 supply fee, bring your watercolor tools and paint, I will supply the
paper and the crazy stuff above.
There is a limit of 10 per class, so please sign up quickly if you want
a chair. I am looking forward to this format where we can work sort of
non-stop and get some things finished.
Since this Saturday is coming so quickly, if you want to attend, e-mail
me or call me 832-746-4376 and I will sign you up and collect on the day
of the workshop. For all the others, please send your fees in prior to
the workshop dates after checking with me for space available.
I am looking forward to making some great art this month and can't wait
to see what comes out of it.
Hope to see you soon.
